# Preparing Apple Watch for Return

Make sure you turn off ***Activation Lock*** on your device before giving it away or sending it in for a repair. Otherwise, your device will be locked – anyone you give the device to won't be able to use it normally and Apple technicians won't be able to perform service repairs. Just unpair your Apple Watch from your iPhone.

\
**Steps are as follow:**

1. Keep your Apple Watch and iPhone close together
2. Open the Watch app on your iPhone
3. Tap the My Watch tab, then tap All Watches at the top of the screen
4. Tap the info button next to your Apple Watch
5. Tap Unpair Apple Watch. For cellular models of Apple Watch, tap Remove \[Carrier\] Plan. \n (*If you are not going to pair with a different Apple Watch or iPhone, you might need to contact your carrier to cancel your cellular subscription*)
6. Enter your Apple ID password. If you forgot your Apple ID password, [you can reset it](https://support.apple.com/en-gb/HT201487)
7. Tap again to confirm
